Through play based activities such as art, storytelling, imaginative play, and cooking, your child’s early years, and by extension your family’s life, will be enhanced by the Jewish calendar and the many holiday and festivals including: the joy of Shabbat, the awe and self reflection of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the environmentalism of Tu Bishvat, the spirit of Purim, the meaning of Passover, and the pride of Israel’s Independence Day.
Kehillat Israel ECC is a gateway to a journey of Jewish experience. Over 95% of ECC graduates attend our Jewish Experience Center (religious school). ECC graduates establish friendships that continue as they study together and prepare for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. The concepts and Jewish values that are introduced in the ECC are enriched and revisited in the Jewish Experience Center through a scaffolded curriculum.
After their Bar and Bat Mitzvah, ECC graduates take part in our many teen programs including social action trips where they lobby congressional leaders or plant community gardens in New Orleans, and serve as members of teen philanthropy boards. Children from our ECC are friends for life. As a teen who once attended our school recently stated, “It is so awesome that when I go to Rosh Hashanah everyone knows my name.”
When your child is accepted at our ECC, your family will establish connections to a larger congregational community that serves your family through every stage of life. These connections provide wisdom and support as you navigate the toddler years, elementary, middle and high school choices and transitions, summer camp decisions, the teen years, preparing (and leaving) for college and beyond.
We look forward to welcoming you to the joys of this Jewish community!
